How to make a QR code

  1. Pick what it is for

Tap Link, Text, WhatsApp, UPI payment, Wi-Fi, Location, Contact card, Phone call or Email.

  2. Fill in the details

The QR code is made while you type. If something is wrong, the box says what to fix.

  3. Download or share

Take a PNG for WhatsApp, documents and screens, or an SVG for printers, banners and design software. On a phone, Share sends it straight to someone.

Why use this QR code generator

Never expires

These are static QR codes: what you typed is inside the picture itself. No account, no subscription, no "your QR code has expired" page.

UPI, WhatsApp, Wi-Fi and more

A payment QR with your UPI ID, amount and note; a WhatsApp chat QR with +91 already filled in; Wi-Fi, a place, a contact card, a phone number and an email. Hindi names work too.

PNG and SVG

PNG for chats and documents, SVG for printing, which stays sharp at any size. Choose 256 to 2048 pixels.

Your details stay on your phone

The QR code is made in your browser. A Wi-Fi password, a UPI ID or a phone number is not sent to us and not saved.

Your colours

Pick the colour of the code and of the background. The tool warns you when the colours are too close or the code is lighter than its background.

Made for phones

Big buttons, a preview that changes while you type, and a Share button for WhatsApp and other apps (on phones that can share a picture). It fits a 320 px wide screen.

Tips for QR codes that scan

Questions

Is this QR code generator free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many QR codes you make. It runs in the browser of your phone or computer.
Do these QR codes expire?
No. They are static QR codes: what you typed is inside the picture itself, so the code keeps working for as long as you keep the picture. We cannot switch it off, because it does not go through us. The only thing that can stop working is what the code points to, for example a website that is taken down.
How do I make a UPI QR code?
Choose UPI payment, type your UPI ID (like name@bank) and your name, and, if you want, an amount and a note. Download the picture, then share or print it. When someone scans it with a UPI app, the app opens with your UPI ID filled in. If you add an amount, the person paying cannot change it. This makes a personal payment link; a shop should also keep the QR code its bank gives it.
How do I make a WhatsApp QR code?
Choose WhatsApp, check the country code (+91 is filled in for India), type the number and, if you like, a message. When someone scans the code, WhatsApp opens a chat with that number and your message is ready to send.
How do I make a Wi-Fi QR code?
Choose Wi-Fi, type the network name exactly as it appears, pick the security (most home routers use WPA/WPA2) and type the password. Most Android phones and iPhones offer to join the network when they scan it with the camera, so guests do not have to type the password. You can print it and stick it on the wall. Remember that anyone who has the picture can read the password out of it.
How do I make a location QR code?
Choose Location, then type a place or an address, or tap Use my location. Two numbers like 28.6129, 77.2295 make a pin on the map; anything else is searched in Google Maps. The phone opens Google Maps.
What is the difference between PNG and SVG?
PNG is a normal picture: use it for WhatsApp, documents and screens. SVG is made of shapes, so it stays sharp at any size: use it for printers, banners and design software.
Which error correction level should I choose?
Medium is right for most. A higher level lets the code be read even when part of it is dirty or torn, but it makes the picture finer. Choose High only for codes that will be printed on things that get scratched or dirty.
Is my information safe?
Yes. The QR code is made on your phone or computer. What you type (a Wi-Fi password, a UPI ID, a phone number) is not sent to us and not saved. We only count that a QR code was made and of which kind, never what was in it.
Why does my QR code not scan?
Most often: the two colours are too close, or the code is lighter than its background; it is printed too small for how far away people scan; it holds a lot of text, which makes a very fine picture; or the picture is blurred or stretched. Make it dark on light, bigger and simpler, keep the empty border round it, and test it with your phone before you print many copies.
Can I use my own colours?
Yes. Open Colours, size and error correction, then pick the colour of the code and of the background. Dark on light always scans best. The tool warns you when the colours are too close.
