For a clean cut-out

Use a photo where the person is clear and not too small in the frame.
A plain or contrasting background gives the cleanest edges. Busy backgrounds with similar colours can leave bits behind.
Good light on the person helps. Very dark or blurry photos are harder to cut out.
If an edge is not perfect, open the editor and use the mask: the brush shows the picture, the eraser hides it.
This tool finds people. It does not find pets, products or other objects.

Questions

Is this background remover free?

Yes. It is free to use, with no watermark and no account needed.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. A small cut-out model runs in your browser on your device. The model file (about 1 MB) is downloaded once, so you need the internet the first time. Your photo is never sent anywhere.

Does it work on objects, pets or products?

No. It is made for photos of people. If it cannot find a person it tells you, and you can still use the editor to cut things out by hand with the selection tools.

How do I get a transparent background?

After the background is removed, the Export sheet opens set to PNG. A PNG keeps the see-through background. A JPG cannot, so empty areas would turn white.

Can I add a new background?

Yes. Open the editor, add a photo as a layer under the person, or set a background colour from the menu, then export.

The edges are not perfect. What can I do?

The result is a mask that you can edit. In the editor choose Edit mask, then paint with the brush to bring a part back, or the eraser to hide a leftover. Zoom in for fine edges like hair.

Can I make a white-background passport photo with it?

Yes. Use the passport photo maker, then in the editor choose Remove the background from the menu. The empty space shows as white on the card.
