Free subtitle generator

Choose a video and its speech is written out as captions, timed to every word. Style them like Reels and Shorts, fix any mistakes, then save an SRT subtitle file or export the video with the captions on it. Your video never leaves your device.

Make subtitles →The first time it downloads a small speech model (about 75 MB).

How it works

  1. Choose your video

Pick a video with speech from your phone or computer. MP4 and WebM work in most browsers; MOV works if your browser can play it.

  2. Wait a moment

The speech is recognised on your device. The first time, a small model (about 75 MB) is downloaded and kept in your browser.

  3. Pick a style and fix the words

Choose from 12 caption styles, set the size and position, and correct any word that was heard wrongly.

  4. Save the SRT or export the video

Tap Save SRT for a subtitle file (YouTube, Facebook and players use it), or Export to burn the captions into the video.

Why use this tool

Word by word

Every word is timed, so the word being said can light up like the captions in Reels and Shorts.

12 caption styles

Karaoke, Pop, Highlight box, Neon, One word and more, with size, position and words per line.

SRT file for YouTube

Save a standard .srt file and upload it as real closed captions, or open it in any subtitle editor.

Fix the words

Correct names and unusual words line by line; the timing of the other words stays.

Private

The speech is recognised on your device. Your video and your voice are not sent to a server.

Free, no watermark

Nothing is stamped on your video. A free account is only needed when you export the video.

Tips for better subtitles

Questions

Is this subtitle generator really free?
Yes. You can write captions and save the SRT file for free, with no watermark. A free account is only needed when you export the video itself.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The speech is recognised in your browser, on your own device. Your video and audio are not sent to a server.
How do I download an SRT file?
After the captions are made, the Caption styles sheet opens. Tap Save SRT to download captions.srt. You can upload it to YouTube or Facebook as subtitles.
Which languages does it understand?
The on-device model can recognise many languages, but it is small, so it is most accurate in English. Hindi and mixed speech like Hinglish will have more mistakes. Use Fix the words to correct them.
Why does it download something the first time?
The speech model (about 75 MB) is downloaded once and kept in your browser. After that, it starts faster and works the same way. You need the internet only for that first download.
Can I burn the subtitles into the video?
Yes. Pick a style, then tap Export. The captions are drawn into the video, with the spoken word highlighted if the style does that.
Can I use subtitles I already have?
Yes. In the editor, use Import SRT in the Text Overlays section, then pick any caption style for it.
How long a video can it handle?
Files up to 300 MB. For longer videos, cut them into parts first.
