Your browser can't decode that file's codec — common with MOV, MKV and HEVC/H.265 video, especially in Firefox. Convert it to MP4 (H.264 video, AAC audio) with a free tool such as HandBrake and import it again. Still images (PNG, JPG) can't be imported as clips yet.
I chose MP4 but got a .webm file
Your browser can't encode H.264, so Nova Clip falls back to WebM. The export window shows a warning when this happens. Use the latest Chrome or Edge for MP4, or check your browser on the Browser Support page.
Export is slow or stops
Use the latest Chrome or Edge on a desktop to get fast export, which is usually several times faster than real time — the export window shows ⚡ Fast export when it's available. Projects with speed changes, reverse or freeze frames export in real time, taking about as long as the video. Either way, keep the tab visible and close other heavy tabs; a lower resolution or 30 fps also helps on long projects.
A long video crashes or runs out of memory
Use the latest Chrome or Edge on a desktop. There, audio is processed in chunks and exports bigger than about 400 MB are written straight to a file you choose, so hour-long videos work — we test with a 60-minute video. Other browsers keep the finished export in memory; lower the resolution or quality for very long projects there.
My exported video has no sound
In the export window, make sure Include Audio is switched on. Then check that the A1 track isn't muted and that no other track is soloed.
My vertical video exports with black bars
Set the canvas to 1080×1920 with the canvas size button before exporting — the export keeps the project's shape. If you still see bars, reload the editor to make sure you have the latest version (v0.7 or later).
My project is gone
Autosave keeps your edit in this browser only, and private or incognito windows don't keep it. Use Save Project to download a .nova.json file as a backup.
Clips show as missing after loading a project
Project files store your edit, not your media. Import the original files first, then load the project — Nova Clip relinks clips to media with the same file names.
Keyboard shortcuts don't work
Shortcuts are ignored while you're typing in a text field — click the timeline first. On a Mac, use ⌘ instead of Ctrl. See every key on the Shortcuts page.
Playback is choppy
Film Grain and Glow are processed on every frame and can slow down older computers — turn them off while editing and back on before export. Closing other tabs and using Chrome or Edge also helps.
Green screen edges look rough
Raise Tolerance until the background is gone, then add a little Softness. Evenly lit green screens key much more cleanly than ones with shadows or wrinkles.
The Google sign-in window was blocked
Allow pop-ups for this site in your browser's address bar, then click Continue with Google again.
