Nova Clip

Import Media

Nova Clip works entirely in your browser — no upload to any server. Your files stay on your device.

How to import

1. Click Import Media in the toolbar, or drag and drop files onto the editor.
2. Supported formats: any video or audio your browser can decode. MP4, WebM, MP3, WAV and OGG work everywhere; MOV and MKV depend on the browser.
3. Multiple files can be imported at once — they are added as separate clips on the timeline.

Timeline Basics

The timeline is where you arrange, trim and layer your clips. It supports multiple video and audio tracks stacked vertically.

Adding tracks

The timeline has two video tracks, V1 and V2, and an audio track, A1. Clips on V2 appear on top of V1 in the preview — use it for overlays, green screen and picture-in-picture.

Moving clips

Click and drag any clip to reposition it. Hold Shift while dragging to snap to nearby clip edges or beat markers.

Trim & Split

Trimming

Drag the left or right edge of a clip to trim it. The preview updates live as you drag.

Splitting

Place the playhead where you want to cut, select the clip, then press S — the clip splits at that point.

Ripple delete

Select a clip and press Delete or Backspace to remove it. Enable ripple mode to automatically close the gap.

Transitions

Where two clips meet on the same track, a small + badge appears on the timeline. Click it to open Clip Transition and choose from 12 transitions: crossfade, fade to black, fade to white, flash, wipe (four directions), push (left/right), zoom in and iris. Click the badge again to change or remove it.

Adjust Duration to control how long the transition lasts (0.2s – 2.0s).

Text & Titles

Click + Text in the toolbar to open the text overlay modal.

Title Templates

Pick a preset from the template grid at the top of the modal:

• Lower Third — bottom bar with slide-up animation
• Big Title — full-screen centered zoom-in
• Subtitle — bottom typewriter caption
• Kinetic — bold yellow slide-up
• Neon — cyan glow fade-in

Type your text, adjust font size, color, position and animation, then click Add Text.

Speed Ramp

Select a clip and find the Speed slider in the clip properties panel. Drag left for slow motion (down to 0.1×) or right for timelapse (up to 4×).

Color Grading

Select a clip and open the Color panel. All adjustments are non-destructive and stack in this order:

• Exposure — overall brightness in stops
• Contrast — tonal range compression/expansion
• Highlights / Shadows — targeted bright/dark recovery
• Whites / Blacks — clipping point control
• Color Temp — warm ↔ cool white balance
• Tint — green ↔ magenta balance
• Vibrance / Saturation — color intensity

The Color Wheels (Lift / Gamma / Gain) give per-channel control over shadows, midtones and highlights.

Color Match

Color Match lets you copy the color profile of one clip onto another in one click.

1. Scrub to a frame with the look you want to copy.
2. Press Shift+C (or click SAMPLE REF) to save that frame as the reference.
3. Navigate to the clip you want to grade.
4. Press Shift+M (or click MATCH COLOR) — the grade is applied instantly.

Chroma Key

Place your green/blue screen clip on a track above your background clip. Select it and open the Chroma Key panel.

1. Enable the toggle.
2. Click the color picker to sample your background color (or type a hex value).
3. Adjust Threshold and Tolerance until the background disappears.
4. Use Edge Softness to blend the edges.

Audio

Each clip has an independent volume slider (0 – 200%). Click the speaker icon to mute/unmute a track.

Add fade-in or fade-out on any clip by dragging the small triangle handles at the clip edges (audio clips).

Export Video

Click Export in the toolbar. Nova Clip renders the entire timeline frame-by-frame and downloads an .mp4 (H.264) or .webm (VP9) file. MP4 is used when you choose it and your browser can record it; otherwise Nova Clip falls back to WebM.

• Choose a resolution from 480p to 4K. Vertical and square projects keep their shape — 1080p on a 1080×1920 project exports at 1080×1920.
• Fast export: in browsers with WebCodecs (Chrome, Edge), frames are decoded and encoded directly — usually several times faster than real time. Projects with speed changes, reverse or freeze frames, and other browsers, export in real time.
• Large exports: when the file will be bigger than about 400 MB, Chrome and Edge ask where to save it first and write it straight to disk, so long videos don't run out of memory.
• No upload required — rendering happens entirely in your browser.
• Large projects may take a few minutes depending on your CPU.
